With
the largest hospital in the region, Valley
Baptist Medical Center, Harlingen has long been an important Rio
Grande Valley healthcare center. In 2002, Harlingen became the
acknowledged medical heart of the Valley with the opening of a
second hospital, Harlingen
Medical Center, and a new medical school campus, the Regional
Academic Health Center of the University of Texas Health Science
Center-San Antonio. The RAHC trains third- and fourth-year medical
students and guides 13 newly graduated doctors through a three-year
Internal Medicine residency program.
Harlingen offers a uniquely caring and responsive environment toward
the health of our citizens. From the beautiful Ronald
McDonald House, which provides a comfortable home environment to
families of children receiving local medical care, to Su
Clinica Familiar, one of the largest federally funded community
health-care clinics in the state, our abundant resources ensure a
high level of quality care provided by some of the largest and most
technically advanced professionals in south Texas.
